The second Association of Diplomatic Spouses (ADS) Meeting was held at the Indonesian Residence, on the 28th of March 2012. The host, Mme. Tri Astuti Sumartono, had just been appointed as President of ADS in the committee meeting on the 16th of March. Around 20 members attended the gathering. Membership this year included two gentlemen from Spain and Portugal, which was a nice change to the previously ladies only meetings.
The meeting started-off with discussions on several important items, among others: membership administrative issues and the upcoming two big events of the year – the ADS International Charity Bazaar at the Franco Namibian Cultural Center (FNCC) in May and the Gala Dinner in October. Both are significant fund raising activities of the ADS, which all goes to charity purposes in Namibia.
The other important issue was the setting up of the ADS Website, which was proposed and kindly designed by Mr. Antonio Avia from Spain.
Prior to lunch, the guests were treated to a surprise musical performance by the Indonesian Embassy staff. They performed two songs using Angklung, an Indonesian traditional bamboo music instrument.
The ADS members were surely entertained by the amateur musicians and were invited to try the Angklung themselves. Everyone had fun playing TwinkleTwinkle Little Star on the Angklung instruments. An Indonesian style lunch concluded the meeting.
A lot of work awaits but, by working together the ADS will hopefully have another great year and continue to contribute towards various efforts to help the underprivileged people of Namibia.
