Hon Chris Carter, Minister for Ethnic Affairs of New Zealand has said that the Indonesian Batik is the most artistic in the world. Hon Chris Carter was among 300 guests in the Batik Fashion Show: Heritage of Indonesia in Auckland, 24 April 2010.
The Indonesian Embassy in Wellington organized the Fashion Show in association with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia to promote Indonesian Batik in New Zealand. Around 24 batiks owned by designer Adjie Notonegoro were shown in the Show.
Ambassador of Indonesia Amris Hassan in his opening remarks said that the Fashion Show was held as part to commemorate 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and New Zealand. The show was also aimed at increasing knowledge about Indonesia and to enhance people to people contact.
One collection was also auctioned in that night and successfully earning NZD 1,500 which was donated to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
