Laos Gives its Support for the Victims of Earthquake and Tsunami in Palu and Donggala

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, H.E. KhampaoErntahavanh, on 8 October 2018, have symbolically handed over contribution of US$ 100.000 from the Government of Laos for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi Province. The symbolic contribution was handed over to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Lao PDR, H.E. PratitoSoeharyo.

In her remarks, the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed deep sympathy and condolences from the Government and all people of the Laos PDR for the natural disaster. This assistance is concrete manifestation of the close relationship, friendship and solidarity from Laos to Indonesia.

"The Lao government has followed closely the development of the situation of natural disasters in Indonesia which occurred in recent times. We believe that Indonesia will soon be able to overcome this difficult condition" said the Deputy Minister.

Ambassador PratitoSoeharyo expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the sympathy and sincere support of the Government and the people of Laos. "The assistance to Indonesia given by Laos is a clear evidence of the close relations between the two countries," he further said.

In this regards, the Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane will coordinate with relevant ministries/ institutions in Indonesia for the effective use of the assistance from the Lao Government.

Previously, the Government of Laos have also conveyed its support for the natural disaster in Indonesia. In 2005, around US $ 25,000 was given to the victims of the tsunami disaster in Aceh. In 2010, around US $ 100,000 was given in relation with the handling of natural disasters that occurred in Wasior (West Papua), Mentawai (West Sumatra) and Mount Merapi in Central Java.
