Indonesia – Laos Economic Cooperation in 2017

This year mark the 60th Anniversary of Indonesia and Laos bilateral relations. The relationship is steadfast and closes, however the Indonesia Government is keen to increase the bilateral relations to reach a new height in various sector.

As the pinnacle of the 60th year Anniversary, Laos Prime Minister His Excellency Thongloun Sissoulith visited Indonesia to fulfill President Joko Widodo Invitation. In the meeting there were two MoU signing in the economy sector which are:

1. MoU on increasing cooperation between Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Laos National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

2.   MoU on Coal Purchasing by Petro Trade and PT Manggala Energi Utama

In retrospect, economic cooperation in 2017 has been shows a promising progress compared to the last two years. In October 2017 the total trade between Indonesia and Laos has reached US $ 12, 9 Million. Meanwhile, in 2016 the total trade reached U$ 10 million and 2015 8.5 million.

In Commodities, Indonesia has imported gold, raw tobacco, and thermostats from Laos. In the other hand, Laos has imported cars, cotton, and coal.
