In collaboration with Indonesian Trade and Promotion Centre (ITPC), the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Vancouver convened “Remarkable Indonesia: Trade and Tourism Promotion 2012” at Empire Landmark Hotel and Conference, Vancouver on 21 November 2012. This integrated promotional event was meant to highlight Indonesian tourism and creative industries. Councillor Chak Au of Richmond, BC and other 130 guests from various business circles representing business associations, travel bureaus, media, academicians and community leaders attended the event.
In his remarks, Consul General Bambang Hiendrasto sketched out the progress of the Indonesian economic and bilateral cooperation between Canada-Indonesia in the context of this year’s commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic relations of both countries. The Acting Head of ITPC, Mr Tengku Bayu Nasrul Sjah made a presentation concerning Papuan and silver handicrafts. Other presentations which include Indonesian food products and coffee, business opportunities in Indonesia and batik exhibition performed by representatives from VITIC Enterprise, Financial Literacy Counsel Inc. dan Omnita Cultural, Arts and Media.
On this occasion, Indonesian arts and cultures were showcased which include "Pasembahan" dance from West Sumatera and batik fashion show which was preceded by "Dayak" dance. The batik costumes used in the show were from a traditional batik entrepreneur living in Yogyakarta while all of the performances were done by “Indonesia Satoe”, an Indonesian arts and culture group in Vancouver, and a young Indonesian fashion designer. During the event, the audience also had the opportunity to enjoy food sample from Vitic and Le Kiu Corporation as well as to get Indonesian tourism information from Silk Holidays (Richmond), Able Travel (Burnaby) dan Bestway Tours and Safaris (Burnaby).
