Cultural Show for Padang Earthquake Survivors


Continuing the fundraising activity for the victims of Padang earthquake, Indonesian communities in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Toronto conducted a special charity night at Glen Forest Secondary School, Mississauga. In this event, young and talented Indonesian artist, Denada Tambunan was invited as a guest star aside from the cultural performance held by Indonesian community in Toronto;  such as: Pendet, Jaipongan, Renggong Betawi, Rantau Minang, and duet Saxophone.


The show was begun by the citing of the story of Padang earthquake tragedy which destroyed people living there and followed by moment of silence, singing Indonesian and Canadian hymn and presentation of the condition in West Sumatera aftermath of the earthquake.


In his speech, Indonesian Consul General, Mr Bambang Gunawan, said that the purpose of this event is to cultivate the brotherhood and unity feeling among Indonesian communities residing in Greater Toronto Area. In this opportunity, Consul General gave high appreciation and shared thankful feeling to all Indonesian community and other parties who had given hands in order to make this event possible. Special appreciation also be raised to the first ever working committee which comprised from representative of all cross of Indonesian community organizations.


Around 450 audiences felt so satisfied and gave non-stop applause to every performance. Even they did not only enjoy with the show but also enthusiastic in participating in the auction of four paintings and handy craft products dedicated to fundraising.
