An opening reception for the Sakura Collection 2017 was held at the Yokohama Sankeien Garden on the evening of March 22, 2017. The ceremony, the beating of a drum filled with Sake, was performed by the Governor of the Kawagama prefecture,Yuji Kuroiwa, flanked by the Indonesian Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Ben Perkasa, accompanied by Mr. Eko Junor, the Minister Counsellor for Information and Socio Cultural Affairs, and Mrs. Alinda Medrial Zain, the Education Attache of the Embasssy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo.
The event, organized by Noriko Tozawa and now in its 5th consecutive year, was followed by a fashion parade, showing creations inspired by the Sakura blossom, by 5 designers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philpines and Singapore. Savira Lavinia Raswari from Indonesia is a young designer from Esmod Fashion School in Jakarta who won the Sakura Collection Asia Students Award. The main purpose of the Sakura Collection project is to introduce traditional Japanese culture and promote international cultural exchanges.
