On December 1st 2010 in Surabaya, the Mayor of Surabaya, Mrs. Tri Rismaharini and the Deputy Mayor of Varna (Bulgaria), Mr. Hristo Bozov signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation of Sister City Surabaya and Varna. Also attending the procession is the Ambassador of Indonesia to the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Mr. Immanuel Robert Inkiriwang. The occasion thus fulfills the Letter of Intent (LOI) on the Sister City cooperation between the two cities which was signed in Bulgaria, 24th November 2009.
On the occasion, Mayor Rismaharini conveys that after the implementations of the signing of Sister City Partnership on the Letter of Intent (LOI), as well as the procedures for establishing other cooperations during the past years (which she judges ran fairly quickly and conducted smoothly) she is proud of that it resulted in the signing of the MOU. She added, "After the text of the MoU is signed, the city of Varna officially becomes the 6th sister city and the youngest city in cooperation with the city of Surabaya. It is hoped that further progress after the signing of the MOU can be immediately implemented.
Deputy Mayor of Varna said that he is also very happy with the signing of the MOU sister city cooperation with Surabaya and is confident that the cooperation between the two cities will be very beneficial to the people of Surabaya and Varna. In this opportunity Mr. Bozov also conveyed greetings to the mayor of Surabaya from the Mayor of Varna, H.E. Mr. Cyril Yordanov also from the Chairman of the Municipal Council of Varna H.E. Mr. Nikolay Apostolov. The Deputy Mayor of Varna also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Ambassador, Mr. Inkiriwang for his continuous support from early in the process of the formation of sister city cooperation between the two cities.
In his brief remark, Ambassador Inkiriwang congratulated the two cities as well as stating that the establishment of sister city cooperation between them would not be separated from the sincerity of both Surabaya City Government and Varna City Government. The Ambassador also reiterates Mrs. Rismaharini’s statement that to be successful on the cooperation, there is a need to follow up on progress as well as to start moving ahead with concrete collaborations.
On this visit the Deputy Mayor of Varna led a delegation team consisting of Ms. Valeria Angelova (Vice-Chairman of Parliament), Mr. Krasimir Simov (member of the Parliament) and Mr. Petar Radushev (Director of International Cooperation of Varna). During their stay in Surabaya, from 30 November to 5 December 2010, the Delegation of the City of Varna, visited the Parliament in Surabaya, Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya Chamber of Commerce, some Universities (Airlangga University, Veteran University of National Development and the Hang Tuah University), KONI branch of Surabaya and lastly a visit to a furniture factory in Surabaya.
