Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all, I would like to extend Mr. Muhammad Lutfi’s apology for his inability to join this very momentous event. Indeed, the Chairman of BKPM had already prepared himself to welcoming you and supposed to take this august opportunity in the seminar on Indonesia Investment Opportunity this morning. However, at the same time, the Chairman of BKPM has another commitment in Jakarta as also in preparing finalization of the ASEAN-ROK FTA Investment Agreement which has been signed during the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit yesterday. For this matter, Chairman of BKPM has requested that the Vice Chairman of BKPM, Mr. Darmawan Djajusman, could fill up the main topic of discussion of this seminar.
I would also like to express my deep gratitude to all the participants for committing their valuable time in attending this event amidst your tight schedule.
Now, I would like to congratulate the ASEAN-Korea Centre for organizing this seminar on Indonesia Investment Opportunity. It is my great privilege to be part of this event which organized with collaboration between the ASEAN-Korea Centre, the Investment Coordinating Board of Indonesia (BKPM) and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia. The seminar with this theme may have been organized several times before but this is the first time that the seminar is organized by ASEAN-Korea Centre. Therefore, this event is surely one of milestones that the Centre has created after the inauguration of the Centre itself on 13 of March this year. I am certain that this event will be followed by many other activities of the Centre in various sectors of cooperation. This forum is one of the avenues during which Korean private sectors could understand better the investment climate in Indonesia and the investment opportunity which exists in Indonesia and it is my fervent hope that this event could eventually lead to some decisions to invest in Indonesia.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Allow me to share with you several facts about foreign direct investment in the region especially Indonesia. Southeast Asia is the prominent destination for Korean outward investment and Indonesia is one of the biggest
I would like to highlight several competitive advantages that Indonesia offers, among others, the 4th largest domestic market in the world with competitive work force, its strategic location among international sea routes, and the abundance of diversified natural resources, along with the economic and political stability. Amidst the global economic slowdown, both Indonesia and Korea are facing new challenges which might affect bilateral investment flows. However, with both countries have their distinct potential in facing the crisis, Indonesia with the economy which still grows amidst the global slowdown and Korea with their predicted earlier economic recovery, investment flows between Indonesia and Korea is surely has a firm base for future growth.
In terms of investments, Korean businesses are prospecting the world for more favorable locations for business venture. The Korean government backed this trend with policies aimed in facilitating the flow of investment abroad. Again, as location of choice for Korean investment, Indonesia is among the sought-after places for Korean investors. With the new investment law which brings about better investment climate in Indonesia and the shift of policy toward more restrictive investment environment in several East Asian countries, Indonesia could enhance its position as favorable investment location for Korean investors.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am certain that this event will provide the necessary information for Korean companies on how to invest and to do business in Indonesia and in considering Indonesia as the prospective location for investment.
Once again, allow me to express my warm welcome and appreciation for your presence here with us, despite your busy schedule.
