As ASEAN Chair for 2011, Indonesia will lead this organization of Southeast Asia nations to play a significant role at the global level. Indonesia does not only carry out procedural function as the Chair for ASEAN series of meeting throughout 2011, but also commits to give substantive contribution for the development of this regional organization.
This is conveyed by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa, in a talk and discussion with political practitioners, entrepreneurs, academicians, and media, which is held by Asia Society, in New York, on Wednesday, 22 September 2010. In the forum 'Asian Distinguished Leaders Series,' Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa made a presentation themed 'The Future of Indonesia-ASEAN Relations.'
In this occasion, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa, underlined three agenda during Indonesia's Chairmanship in ASEAN for 2011. First, Indonesia will continue intensifying efforts to eastablish ASEAN Community 2015 through the implementation of various plan of actions made by ASEAN members.
Second, Indonesia will continue developing an inclusive regional architecture with ASEAN as the main motivator. Also highlighted by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa, Indonesia will encourage the creation of regional architecture based on a dynamic equilibrium in which there is no dominant power. In this context, Indonesia views that U.S. and Russia interests to participate in East Asia Summit is a positive thing which could support the creation of an inclusive and harmonious regional architecture.
