Indonesia is safe for travel by US citizens and other foreign nationals. Nevertheless, for their own safety and with respect to certain domestic conditions, we strongly advise the visa applicant to contact the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate or their travel agency for current information of their travel destinations within Indonesia.
Furthermore, there are two regions in Indonesia that require special permission for travel: Poso and Papua. Please inform the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate about any intention to visit this restricted region; this also applies to those who work there (e.g. Freeport employees, religious workers, etc.). The visa applicant should apply for special authorization as early as possible; it may take more than two weeks before special permission can be granted or denied. Visitors who enter these restricted regions without authorization are subject to arrest, detention, and prosecution according to Indonesian law.
Please be advised that all Indonesian representatives (embassy/consulate) hold the right to deny any applicant who are deemed ineligible without disclosing any reason.
