Visa for Journalists


Visa for journalists is granted for foreign citizens who wish to visit Indonesia for journalism purposes.


General Requirements:

  • Submit online visa application to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi at least 3 (three) weeks prior to the departure date;
  • Visitors are not allowed to enter Indonesia by visa on arrival (VOA) facility nor visa exemption facility;
  • Complete all requirements in line with the type of visit;
  • 1 (one) copy of Resident Certificate from the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of India with minimum validity of 6 (six) months from the date of departure to Indonesia (for non-Indian nationals residing in India only)
  • Complete check list form in line with the type of visit;
  • Submit flight itinerary (and its alteration if any);
  • It is strongly suggested for applicants to issue confirmed ticket only after visa is granted;
  • Bring all of the application documents to the visa counter of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi, 50-A, Kautilya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, 110021 (no staples, use paper clips);
  • Information on the visa application status and its collection time will be conveyed directly to the applicants.


Special Requirements for Film/Documentary/Reality Show/Advertisement Purposes:

  • Completed online application form; 
  • Original passport with minimum 2 (two) blank pages with minimum validity of 6 (six) months upon the date of arrival in Indonesia;
  • 1 (one) copy of original passport (including personal identity pages, pages containing any amendments/observations/revisions and pages containing the latest Indonesian visa if any);
  • 1 (one) copy of Resident Certificate from the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of India with minimum validity of 6 (six) months from the date of departure to Indonesia (for non-Indian nationals residing in India only);
  • 2 (two) passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm with white background); 
  • Flight itinerary (and its alteration if any);
  • Cover/request letter (original) to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi from either the applicant or the employer/institution;
  • Letter of sponsorship/recommendation from the applicant's media company mentioning  the list of journalists and their positions, purpose of visit, places in Indonesia where the journalism activities will take place as well as the schedule of activities in Indonesia;
  • Company profile;
  • List of journalists and their positions;
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) of each journalist;
  • Schedule of journalism activities in Indonesia;
  • Synopsis or background information on the journalism activity (any activities beyond the synopsis nor the schedule of activities are not allowed);
  • List of equipment;  
  • Detailed information on local partner or fixer to assist applicants in obtaining any licenses in Indonesia;
  • List of resource persons to be interviewed or shown in the Film/Documentary/Reality Show/Advertisement;
  • Letter of statement signed by applicants consisting of:
  1. Agreement to comply with all rules and regulations in Indonesia, including regional regulations in holy sites and national parks;
  2. Agreement to pay entrance fee of tourits destinations as observed in the Regulation of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia Number 12 Year 2014 on Types and Tariffs for Non-Tax State Revenue in the Ministry of Forestry;
  3. Agreement to convey 1 (one) copy of the final product of journalism activity to the Directorate General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia via the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi.

 

Special Requirements for Media Coverage (News/Photo/Video):

  • Completed online application form; 
  • Original passport with minimum 2 (two) blank pages with minimum validity of 6 (six) months upon the date of arrival in Indonesia;
  • 1 (one) copy of original passport (including personal identity pages, pages containing any amendments/observations/revisions and pages containing the latest Indonesian visa if any);
  • 1 (one) copy of Resident Certificate from the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of India with minimum validity of 6 (six) months from the date of departure to Indonesia (for non-Indian nationals residing in India only);
  • 2 (two) passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm with white background);

  • Letter of statement signed by applicants consisting of:
  1. Agreement to comply with all rules and regulations in Indonesia, including regional regulations in holy sites and national parks;

  • Completed online application form; 
  • Original passport with minimum 2 (two) blank pages with minimum validity of 6 (six) months upon the date of arrival in Indonesia;
  • 1 (one) copy of original passport (including personal identity pages, pages containing any amendments/observations/revisions and pages containing the latest Indonesian visa if any);
  • 1 (one) copy of Resident Certificate from the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of India with minimum validity of 6 (six) months from the date of departure to Indonesia (for non-Indian nationals residing in India only);
  • 2 (two) passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm with white background); 
  • Flight itinerary (and its alteration if any);
  • Cover/request letter (original) to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi from either the applicant or the employer/institution;
  • Letter of sponsorship/recommendation from the applicant's media company mentioning  the list of journalists and their positions, purpose of duty, time period of duty and applicant's permanent/tentative address in Indonesia;
  • Company profile;
  • List of journalists and their positions;
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) of each journalist;
  • Schedule of journalism activities in Indonesia;
  • Synopsis or background information on the journalism activity (any activities beyond the synopsis nor the schedule of activities are not allowed);
  • List of equipment;  
  • Office address in Indonesia;
  • Detailed information on local partner or fixer to assist applicants in obtaining any licenses in Indonesia;
  • List of resource persons to be interviewed or shown in the Film/Documentary/Reality Show/Advertisement;
  • A sample of existing journalism work or article about Indonesia;
  • Letter of statement signed by applicants consisting of agreement to comply with rules and regulations in Indonesia, including regional regulations in holy sites and national parks;
  • Others:
  1. List of members of family as dependants joining to Indonesia (if any);
  2. Visa application form for each member of family shall be individually submitted.

 

ARRIVAL IN INDONESIA

Upon arrival in Indonesia, applicants shall take the following steps:

1.   For Film/Documentary/Reality Show/Advertisement Purposes:

  • Applicants (or local partner/mixer) shall obtain Film Production License (or Surat Izin Produksi (SIP) Film) at the following institution:

  • The Film Production License is free of charge.
  • Applicants shall report their presence to the local authorities.

 

2.   For Media Coverage (News/Photo/Video):

  • Applicants shall do media coverage activities by showing Media Coverage License or "Surat Keterangan Izin Peliputan" issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi.
  • Applicants shall report their presence to the local authorities.


3.   For Foreign Correspondence in Indonesia:

  • Applicants shall transfer their journalist visa into a stay permit ("Ijin Tinggal Sementara (ITAS)") and obtain a permit for hiring foreign worker ("Ijin Mempekerjakan Tenaga Kerja Asing (IMTA)").
