?On October 20th 2014, The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi received junior football team from Ragunan Middle and High School as well as representatives from Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, who participated in football competition, Subroto Cup U-17, which was held at Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi, on October 10-20th 2014. This was the first time Indonesia participated in Subroto Cup, having been invited since 2008.
Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament is a week-long football tournament held annually under the auspices of Indian Air Force Sports Control Board. This year the tournament was held at Ambedkar Stadium, with teams competing in several categories: sub-junior boys (U-14), junior boys (U-17) and junior girls (U-17). Junior teams from Indian states and Union Territories as well as international teams from Brazil, Indonesia, Nepal, and Ukraine participated in Subroto Cop 2014.
In the tournament, Indonesian U-17 football team reached semi-final after winning against Indian junior football teams: Maharana Pratap Sports College Raipur Uttarakhand (6-0), The Air Force School (3-0), and St. Anthony’s Higher Senior Secondary School Meghalaya (1-0). Indonesian U-17 football team was defeated by Brazilian junior team from Colegio Estadul Santo Antonio (1-3). The team got 3rd place in the tournament, and their sportsmanship and fair play earned them fair play awards.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, along with Indonesian students and Indonesian community never failed to give Indonesian U-17 team their full support at Ambedkar Stadium.
During the visit of Indonesian U-17 team, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi, H.E. Mr. Rizali Indrakesuma expressed his immense appreciation at their achievement in Subroto Cup for Junior Boys category. The Ambassador also hoped that Indonesian football team will be able to participate in future competitions in India, as Indian football scene is developing with competitions like Subroto Cup and Indian Super League. He also wished for the team’s continuous spirit in fair play
