Mother´s Day in Lima


The Indonesian Embassy in Lima was filled with a lively atmosphere on December 22, 2010. A number of embassy´s male staffs, including the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Peru and Bolivia, Yosef Berty Fernandez looked enthusiastically joining a competition of making Indonesian chilli sauce (sambal). This interesting activity was held to commemorate the 82nd Mother´s day.

For Indonesians, 22 December is a big day for mothers and it is celebrated in various ways. Living thousands miles away from Indonesia does not stop Indonesian citizens who live in Lima, Peru to commemorate the Mother's Day by attending a commemoration ceremony in the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, on 22 December 2010.

In his speech in front of the Indonesian citizens, Ambassador Yosef Berty Fernandez said that today's Indonesian women have had an important role in various fields, including in building the character of the nation in order to realize a healthy and dignified society.

Ambassador Yosef Berty Fernandez also expressed appreciation for the role of members of Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) in Lima and other Indonesian women who have been active in the Angklung group. Dharma Wanita Persatuan is an association where the spouses of Indonesian civil servants, including diplomats´ spouses, can contribute to societies. Throughout 2010, this Angklung group has actively promoted Indonesian arts in 10 different events in Lima.

On December 8, 2010, the Angklung group performed in
the event of the Congregation de Hermanas de la Virgen Maria del Monte Carmelo, Santa Teresita del Niño Jesus church, Distrito de Villa Maria del Triunfo. In every event, this group has been warmly welcomed.

DWP and other Indonesian mothers who are members of the Angklung group have contributed in the effort to promote Indonesia in Peru. In the midst of their fulltime work as housewives, they are willing to spare some of their precious time to promote Indonesia. Their role is very helpful in optimizing the promotional efforts of Indonesia in Peru.
