"! Que rico" (it’s delicious) said some visitors after tasting coated peanuts, produced by PT. Garuda Food. These visitors visited the booth of the Indonesian embassy in the Expoalimentaria 2011. They expressed their hope that the product will be sold in Lima.
This hope is possible to be fulfilled because the opportunities to market Indonesian food products in Peru are wide-open and boundless. These opportunities are the reasons why the Indonesian embassy participated in Expoalimentaria 2011, the largest food exhibition in Peru, which were held from 28 September until 30 September in San Borja, Lima, Peru.
With the supports of PT.Indo Food, PT. Garuda Food, PT Tri Cipta Chandra, PT. Sinar Mas TBK, PT. Tri Mitra Bio Persada (coconut products), PT. Inti Jaring Mas (fish net products), the Indonesian embassy in Lima has participated in the expo to introduce Indonesian products. Besides that, with the participation of the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre Santiago, Chile, the Indonesian embassy also has promoted the up-coming the 26th Trade Expo Indonesia ke-26, which will be held on 19-23 October.
Expoalimentaria 2011 is the first food exhibition in which the embassy has participated in. The visitors have shown overwhelming enthusiasm to know more about Indonesian products. Everyday, the Indonesian booth is crowded by visitors who showed their curiosity. Besides Indonesia, exhibitors from other Asian countries are from Malaysia and China.
This participation has been useful to introduce the variety of Indonesian products and to bridge contacts between Indonesian companies and importers. The Indonesian embassy has received a number of enquiries to import products such as biscuits, instant noodles, chocolate, spices, sea cucumbers, canned marine products, cosmetics or products of coconut, virgin coconut oil, food flavorings, canned fruits, electricity generators, oil vegetables, snacks, rubber gloves, coffee or organic products, rice, and palm oil processing machinery.
Expoalimentaria is organized by ADEX (Peruvian Export Association), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture. The event is held annually and has been conducted three times since the first event on 2009. This event is a place to find wide-range products of agribusiness, marine products, bio-commercial products and food ingredients. In addition, the event also offers the exhibitions of container services, packing and food processing machinery.
About 540 business entities, including 140 foreign business entities have participated in Expoalimentaria 2011. The organizers said that more than 1,800 international buyers from 60 countries have visited Expoalimentaria 2011, exceeding the target of 1000 international buyers. The majority of buyers are from South American countries, Europe and North America. Overall, the committee estimates that about 20,000 people have visited the exhibition.
