Visa Information

Foreigners are required to have valid visa for traveling to Indonesia. Before submitting your visa application, please check below for important information concerning visa application procedure, visa condition and any other requirements for submitting visa application at our Embassy.

Do I need visa for my travel to Indonesia?

Applicants are encouraged to check whether their travel to Indonesia require a visa. Citizens of 169 countries (including Finland and Estonia) and special administrative regions are exempted from having a visa for short visit to Indonesia and to stay for up to 30 days. Who can apply a visa at the Embassy of the Republic Indonesia in Helsinki?

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Helsinki is accredited to Finland and Estonia. The Embassy will provide Visa and Consular service for citizens of Finland and Estonia. The Embassy will also provide Visa and Consular service for foreign nationals who hold valid Finland or Estonia residency permit.

Visa Processing Time

Please allow 4 (four) business/working days for the visa processing time to take place, provided that all requirements are met. The process may take longer time during holiday seasons. This period excludes the period needed for delivery by post. Kindly adjust your travel plan with the period needed to organize a visa.

No exception is to be made to any applicant, unless under emergency or humanitarian situation (for example: a family member fall ill or sick while traveling to Indonesia as proven by written statement issued by local hospital or doctor). Please note that applicant who has just realized that their passport is expired or valid for less than 6 months and applying a visa using a temporary or provisory passport is not considered as urgent or emergency situation, therefore, normal visa procedure applies.

Validity of Visa

A visa must be used within a period of 90 (ninety) days from the date of issuance. Please check the expiry date before leaving for Indonesia.

The duration of stay (up to 60 days) starts from the first day of arrival in Indonesia based upon the entry stamp provided at the Immigration Checkpoints.

Type of Visa

  1. Single Entry Visa (index B211A)

Visa is valid for single entry only. Click here​ for more info and to apply for a visa.

  1. Multiple Entry Visa (index 212)

This type of visa is valid for multiple entries to Indonesia. This type of visa requires Visa Authorization from the Directorate General of Immigration in Indonesia. Click here for more info and to apply for a visa.

  1. Limited Stay Visa (index 311 to 320)

This type of visa is valid for a limited stay in or migrating to Indonesia for maximum stay of 2 years period. This type of visa requires Visa Authorization from the Directorate General of Immigration in Indonesia. Click here for more info and to apply for a visa.

  1. Visa on Arrival

Visa on Arrival (VoA) can be obtained upon arrival in Indonesia at the designated airports, seaports or land border checkpoint. Click here​ for more info and list of countries eligible to obtain VoA.

  1. Diplomatic or Service Visa

This type of visa is issued only for holders of Diplomatic Passport, Service Passport, and United Nations Laissez-Passer. Click here​ for more info and to apply for a visa.

How to Obtain Visa Authorization from the Directorate General of Immigration in Indonesia?

To obtain Visa Authorization from the Directorate General of Immigration in Indonesia, applicant must have sponsor in Indonesia (company, entity or individual) who will guarantee their stay in Indonesia.

Request for a Visa Authorization can be submitted to the Embassy, or directly to the Directorate General of Immigration in Indonesia by applicant's sponsor. Please allow several weeks for the authorization to be processed by the Directorate General of Immigration.

Journalistic and Film Making Activities Permit

In order to obtain a permit to conduct journalistic activities or making film or shooting video in Indonesia, applicant(s) must contact the Press and Information Section of the Embassy through and Separate form must be filled and submitted to the Embassy.

Procedures for Journalists and Film Shootings


Editor/Journalist of Foreign Media (print/electronic) i.e. newspapers, magazines, news agencies, radio/television as well as film producers including a journalist coverage/visit/assignment to Indonesia should apply permit from the Government of Indonesia.

Application may be sent through the media representative in Indonesia to the Directorate of Information and Media, Department of foreign Affairs, or application may be sent to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Helsinki. The Embassy will give response of the application if an approval has been received from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

A foreign media correspondent accredited to Indonesia requires a permit from Directorate of Information and Media, Department of foreign Affairs; Department of Labor Affairs; Directorate General of Immigration, Department of Justice and Human Rights. The media representative in Indonesia has to contact the above offices to obtain a permit for a media correspondent assigned in Indonesia. The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Helsinki will issue a visa after having an approval from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Requirements for the application to conduct a coverage/journalist visit to Indonesia are as follows:

The following documents should be submitted with an application for a social visit visa:

     - Completed visa application form

     - 4x6cm coloured photos

     - a valid passport (minimum validity of passport is 6 months as from the date of entry into Indonesia)

Completed with the following:


1. For Journalists

Formal application letter from the head of the company concerned (newspaper or agency) stating the purpose of the visit/assignment given by the respective agency/newspaper company.

  • It is advisable that areas of interests/cities/region in Indonesia to be visited and personalities (dignitaries) to be interviewed are also clearly mentioned in the letter to enable the authorities in Jakarta to make necessary arrangements (i.e. day, date and venue of interview, etc) beforehand.
  • It is also advisable that the editor/journalist could prepare the list of questions to be raised during the interview
  • Letter of recommendation from sponsor
  • Completed form of personal history and CV
  • Completed form of list of electronic devices imported to Indonesian Embassy
  • Sign a letter of statement in regard to the obligation to respect and to comply with the customs, laws and regulations during stay in Indonesia
  • A copy of passport


Journalist Visit Forms


2. For Film Shooting purposes requires:

A letter of request and description of media where he/she works

  • A letter of recommendation from a sponsor
  • Completed form for film/video shooting
  • Total crews and their CV
  • Schedule time and location of casting
  • Film Synopsis
  • List of filming equipment and their value
  • Copies of crews passport
  • A signed statement and application form regarding the compliance of regulation for film shooting in Indonesia.


Film Shooting Forms 


Note for media coverage or other journalistic and film shooting purposes:

  1. It is strongly advised to send application at least 30 days before departure to Indonesia
  2. In case, there is additional team member or/and equipment, it has to be proceed as new application
  3. Shooting Film at the Natural Reserve needs special permit (SIMAKSI) from the Directorate General for Natural Protection and Conservation, Ministry of Forestry. This permit can be applied while in Jakarta
  4. Applicant(s) should allow the Embassy to process the above mentioned application in minimum of 14 working days
  5. Before conducting any interview/journalist coverage and film shooting in Indonesia, the Editor(s)/Journalist(s)/Leader of the film crew should report to and obtain Press Card or permit for film production and permit to visit other regions and regional government institutions from:

Once the permit is granted, applicant(s) shall continue to apply for a visa through usual procedure at the Embassy’s Consular Section. Applicant must submit filled visa application form and the required documents added with the journalistic/ film making/ video shooting permit to the Consular Section.

Journalistic and Film Making Activities Permit does not guarantee visa to enter Indonesia, and having a valid Indonesian visa does not guarantee a person to conduct journalistic and film making activities in Indonesia.

Please note that the Embassy has limited number of staffs handling visa and consular matters, therefore, telephone calls are not always promptly answered. The best and most effective way to contact us is through email address:​.

Before sending your questions and enquiries, please make sure that you have looked for the information in our website. Our staffs will only respond to e-mail from applicants asking specific questions or enquiries (e.g. questions like ‘I am a Finnish citizen, do I need visa for a 2 weeks vacation in Indonesia?’, normal processing time, visa fee, will not be prioritized to be answered).

Applicant or their agent present the complete set of document at the Consular Service Counter at the Embassy of Indonesia in Helsinki. Application must be submitted between Monday to Friday from 09:30 – 12:30, except on Indonesian and Finnish public holidays. No appointment is required to submit your visa application.

Please always use the registered post when sending your visa application. After visa is issued, there is an option of having the passport to be returned via postal service. To do so, please enclose a self-addressed return envelope (registered) with an attached stamp. The passport will be sent to the address specified on the self-addressed envelope.

The Embassy cannot accept cash or credit card payment for any of its services. Any visa application or request for consular service whose payment is not made through bank transfer or deposit, will be returned to the applicant and the request will not be processed.

The possession of Indonesian visa does not guarantee entry into Indonesia. Admission to enter Indonesia remains under the authority of the Immigration Officer at the port of entry.

Incomplete application form and supporting documents may cause rejection for visa provision.
