The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Australia, Mr. Yohanes Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo, made his first official trip outside Canberra to Adelaide on 2 - 4 July 2017. During this official trip, Ambassador Legowo attended the Indonesia Council Open Conference (ICOC) 2017, hosted by Flinders University, Adelaide. Mrs. Zani Murnia, Consul of Information, Social and Culture representing Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Sydney, and one staff member accompanied the Ambassador to this conference.
"Parallel efforts need to be conducted in Indonesia", Ambassador Legowo said during his opening remarks at the conference, referring to Flinders University as a campus that for 50 years has actively promoted Indonesian studies in Adelaide and contributed to "creating superb Indonesianists." The Ambassador further stated that through the creation of such scholars, the Indonesian- Australian relationship could be enhanced.
In addition to delivering his speech at ICOC, Ambassador Legowo also attended a meeting with the President of the Australian- Indonesian Association of South Australia (AIASA), discussing INDOfest, an annual promotional event of Indonesian art and culture in South Australia that will take place on 1 October 2017. The Ambassador also had a meeting with officials from Flinders University regarding cooperation programs between Flinders and several universities in Indonesia.
