Indonesia declares UN Security Council Candidacy

Indonesia has announced its candidacy for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council as its commitment and contributions to the United Nations. This announcement was made by Indonesia’s Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla  before the UN General Assembly on 23rd September 2016. Vice President said that the United Nations needs reforms to make it stronger and more relevant to face 21st century challenges and realities.


The Vice President conveyed Indonesia's steady commitment to increase its peacekeeping force personnel by 2019 and its efforts to fight terrorism both regionally and globally. Selections of the new non-permanent Security Council members will be made in mid-2018. Another Asia-Pacific candidate is Maldives.
