Indonesia to Hold Bali Democracy Forum XI "Democracy for Prosperity"


 

Nusa Dua, 5 Desember 2018: For the 11th time, Indonesia will again hold Bali Democracy Forum or BDF in Bali, 6-7 December 2018. This year, BDF theme will be "Democracy for Prosperity". The main objective of the forum is providing platform for sharing experiences among state actors and invited stakeholders to understand the challenges of making democracy that deliver prosperities. At the same time, lesson learned on policies and initiatives, as well as efforts to make democracy works would be further discussed. 

 

The BDF XI Opening Session will be opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno LP Marsudi, on Thursday, 6 December 2018.

After the opening ceremony, BDF XI participants will continue with Discussion Panel I session that will present invited Ministers, CEOs and experts as speakers. Through this panel, all participants will benefit immensely from the valuable insights of the panellists on the sub-theme of “Making Democratic Institutions and Inclusive Prosperity Sustainable”.

 

Afterwards, Discussion Panel II session will present invited Ministers, CEOs and experts as speakers to discuss various issues related to the sub-theme of “Technology, Innovations and the Future of Prosperitysuch as poverty reduction, fights against corruption, business innovation and peace building.

 

At the end of the Forum, a Closing Session will be assembled on the 7th of December, focusing on the presentation of the joint reports of the Bali Civil Society and Media Forum, and the Bali Democracy Student Conference, followed by the presentation of the Chair's Statement of the Bali Democracy Forum XI and Closing Remarks by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

 

To extend the initiative at the 10th BDF, this year’s Forum will convene a Bali Democracy Student Conference (BDSC) where around 150 students, including the overseas ones, as well as from various universities in Indonesia will have the opportunity to deliberate and to express their views about various topics relevant to the theme of the Forum. The conference will be convened parallel to the main event of the Forum.

 

For the first time, this year’s Bali Civil Society and Media Forum (BCSMF) will be conducted in parallel with BDF XI and BDSC 2018. It is intended to optimize the participation of the civil society and media as they are agents for prosperity as well.
