Indonesia Optimizes Its Opportunity on UNSC’s Non-Permanent Membership Campaign

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno LP Marsudi, is in New York, USA, as part of Indonesia's candidacy campaign as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council 2019-2020.

When in New York, Foreign Minister Retno, Indonesian Permanent Representative for the UN, and a number of Foreign Ministry officials conducted a series of activities, including bilateral meetings with ministers and officials of friendly countries, to paved ways for Indonesia's campaign as a non-permanent member of the UNSC.

The series of meetings held by Foreign Minister Retno since arriving in the US on Monday (4/6/2018) were with the United States Foreign Minister, Gabonese Foreign Minister, and Permanent Representatives at the United Nations from Italy, Singapore, Gambia, Algeria, Comoros, The Netherlands, Bolivia, Liberia, Brazil, Tanzania, Sweden, and Nauru.

Indonesia also held a special diplomatic reception for the Indonesian campaign. In the diplomatic reception, the invitees were given a batik scarf which was one of the cultural identities of Indonesian pride.
