Indonesia Encourages Mainstreaming of Creative Economy Issues in the Multilateral Realm through WCCE


Bali, November 6th, 2018 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) will commence the series of World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) in Nusa Dua, Bali on Tuesday (6/11).

The first global scale conference on creative economy is a concrete step by the Government of Indonesia to mainstream creative economy issues at the global stage. WCCE is intended to be a platform that bridges creative industry actors, government and relevant stakeholders in developing the creative economy.

Taking the theme of "Inclusively Creative", in WCCE 2018 Indonesia wants to convey message to the world, that in the midst of economic uncertainty and trade wars, Indonesia comes up with an innovative idea which proven crisis-proof and without limitations on age, gender and borders, called 'the Creative Economy.'

The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, planned to open WCCE 2018 together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno L.P. Marsudi and Head of the Creative Agency (Bekraf), Triawan Munaf. WCCE 2018 will also be filled by a number of renowned speakers such as the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani; Minister of Communication, Rudiantara; Emmy Awards Winner's Director, Lisa Russell; CEO of Elevation Barn, Will Travis; CEO and Founder of Bolanle Austen-Peter Production, Austen-Peter Bolanle; President of China Film Group Corporation, Le Kexi; CEO and Co-Founder of Moonton (Mobile Legends), Justin Yuan; and others will enliven WCCE 2018.

The WCCE 2018 will be held for 3 days (6-8 November 2018), started with Friends of Creative Economy Meeting, which will be attended by Penta-Helix creative economy stakeholders (academics, business sector, communities, governments and media). Followed by Plenary Session for the next two days where international, regional and local speakers will share ideas and proposals related to the development of creative economy issues. There will be signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding creative economy as a result of inclusive collaboration between penta-helix participants.

The Ministerial Meeting will gather all representatives from respected countries to discuss and adopt the outcomes documents of WCCE 2018. These documents will become a landmark in mainstreaming creative economic issues in the multilateral realm. In accordance to the plan to propose the draft resolution on World Creative Economy, which has entered the era of 4.0 at the UN General Assembly in the future.

On the sideline, there will an innovative area called 'CreatiVillage' which will combine exhibition, workshop and talkshow from world's creative industries, such as Disney, Potato Head, Sikka Weaving, London Book Fair, KOCCA, and others. CreatiVillage will also highlight creative economy programs from various regions in Indonesia, as an effort to strengthen the national creative economy ecosystem.
