On the 11th of August, Indonesia Consulate hosted Ambon Night before the participants of Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race sail to Ambon, Indonesia. This yearly event has been organised to introduce and promote the city of Ambon, and deepen its connection as Sister City of Darwin.
The event with "Katong Samua Basudara, Potong di Kuku Rasa di Daging" theme which means the society of Ambon and Darwin need to develop its relationship because between Ambon and Darwin are family. This event attended by around 200 of people from Indonesia and Australia communities in Darwin. The Minister Multicultural, Peter Styles and Lord Mayor of Darwin, Katrina Fong Lim also attended the Ambon Night.
"It is not just about Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race which is an amazing event in developing our relationship with Ambon, but we do have another fantastic relationship forming with Ambon and that is Teacher and Student Exchange Program between Kormilda College and SMAN 5 Ambon", said Katrina Fong Lim, Lord Mayor of Darwin in developing the Darwin-Ambon Sister City relationship. "This will be our further steps in developing relationship between Ambon-Darwin Sister City and hope that this event can be held regularly every year as we are brother and sister in one community." added Mr. Andre Omer Siregar, Consul to Indonesian Consulate in Darwin.
Minister Multicultural, Peter Styles also said "The first thing you need to do in building relationship is trust. People have to know each other to build their trust. Darwin to Ambon Race has been created 32 years ago and from there they build relationship, business opportunities, and understanding the cultural aspect of Darwin and Ambon."
The crowd were entertained by various dances from Poco Poco and Gaba Gaba dance and also the talented exchange teacher from Ambon sings Ambonese song. The crowd also enjoyed the Indonesian foods that are being served for sale by the Indonesian Women Association and Persatuan Indonesia Inc. (SD)
