More than 200 Indonesian and local Darwinian participated in the Flag Raising Ceremony to commemorate the Celebration of 72nd Indonesia Independence Day on 17th August 2017 at the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Darwin.

This year Independence Day theme is "Indonesia Working Together". This theme represents the root of Indonesian culture "gotong royong" or mutual cooperation which is the embodiment of the harmony of togetherness that has become the most effective social adhesive for Indonesian people. This theme also invites all Indonesian people to be united in diversity and to put forward a sense of togetherness.

In his speech, Indonesian Consul in Darwin, Andre Omer Siregar said, "The theme of Indonesian Independence Day Celebration implies the Government's commitment to unite together with all levels of society to work together through all obstacles. Hopefully this national theme can also be the trigger for us all in the Northern Territory to jointly build our beloved nation and country, Indonesia".

Mutual learning from the elderly will gives encouragement and support for the young so that the Indonesian community in NT can be a role model in Australians and become inspiration and partners for our brothers and sisters in Indonesia".

This year flag raising ceremony was quite special, because it coincided with the existence of five interns from Indonesia who are doing an apprentice program at Indonesian Consulate in Darwin.
