Awang Behartawan’s artwork has attracted Danes
On the 3rd of March 2018, Ambassador Muhammad Ibnu Said officially opened the art exhibition featuring the works of the Indonesian artist, Awang Behartawan, at Gallery Lorien in Copenhagen. In this exhibition with the theme “Heritage Me – Herita You”, Awang Behartawan is exhibiting more than 30 of his artworks that involve the use of oil paint. In his opening speech, Ambassador Muhammad Ibnu Said congratulated Awang Berhartawan, who has been living in Denmark for over 20 years, for still being active with his artworks and for having participated actively in the activities of the Indonesian Embassy.
Repetitions and fractals are the key components of each of Awang’s artwork, and in this exhibition, Awang attempts to convey a message of life, origins and how the merge between the Western and Eastern culture so far has had an impact on his life. During the official State visit of the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen to Indonesia in 2017, a Plan of Action was signed. One of the key points in the Plan of Action is to enhance the people-to-people contact between Indonesia and Denmark through social and cultural activities. Indeed, the purpose of Awang Behartawan’s exhibition is to develop the cross-cultural interactions between Denmark and Indonesia.
The opening of the exhibition “Heritage Me – Heritage You” was highlighted with a Balinese traditional dance performance as well as some traditional Indonesian cuisines such as fried noodles and Pukis cake. The atmosphere during the opening event was very lively, as the visitors, who were mainly Danes, expressed their admiration for Awang’s meaningful artworks, the wonderful dance as well as the delicious cuisines.
