Young Fashion Designers received 2nd class: Batik in Fashion



As part of the Fashion Project developed by the Embassy of the Republic of and the Fashion Institute Brivil, the Embassy of Indonesia welcomed the 37 young student designers to the residence of the Indonesian Ambassador, Wisma Duta on Friday the 5th of April 2013.
Ambassador Prianti Gagarin Djatmiko Singgih gave a class on the topic of “BATIK IN FASHION”. The main objective of this class was to teach these 37 designers and their teachers how Batik is used in current fashion by both Indonesian and world renown designers. The class emphazied on the topics such as the challenges of using Batik in modern fashion, what to observe in Batik fashion designing. Designes from Indonesian Designers such as Anne Avantie, Oscar Lwalata, Iwan Tirta and Edo Hutabarat; and international designers such as Dries Van Notten from Belgium and Julien McDonald from Great Britain were shown to the students as source of inspiration for the students future designs.
At the end of the class, the Ambassador started the question & answers session directed to the young designers, the young designers surprised the Embassy’s team by answering all the questions correctly.
