The Embassy of Indonesia in collaboration with Venezuela’s finest Fashion Design Institute “Brivil” has created a fashion design project incorporating Indonesia’s traditional “Batik” into the institute’s curriculum. The objective of this project is to promote and introduce batik in Venezuela fashion industry as well as to show that batik can be worn in a modern and chic styles.
The project design will consist of three classes of Basic Knowledge and philosophy of Batik for all design students of the institute. Forty-three 5th semester students will have the privilege to compete in designing a three-piece collection with batik provided by the Ambassador of Indonesia, H.E. Prianti Gagarin Djatmiko-Singgih. The top three designers will receive the opportunity to design a complete collection and the design winner of the competition will also be placed on an Indonesian Stamp.
On Friday, March 22, 2013, the first class with the title “Batik: from tradition to a chic fashion option” took place in the Embassy of Indonesia in Caracas with privileged 43 fashion design students. The class was given by Ambassador Gagarin and the class gave the students the chance to learn, experience and touch Batik for the first time. The class emphasized on everything from the process on how to make Batik, the types of Batik as well as its history, meaning and value to the culture of Indonesia. The class ended with a quiz on the basic knowledge, those who answered the questions correctly were rewarded with piece of batik .
To finish this first session, the participants were delighted to Indonesian snacks. The next three classes will take place in April 2013.
