?It would have been more suitable if the title of the discussion that took place at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, 17 April 2013, were "The Revival of Indonesia", instead of "The Rise of Indonesia", Dr. Manuel Schmitz concluded after listening to the presentation of H.E. Ambassador Arif Havas Oegroseno at the event.
Indeed, in the 2-hour long public lecture which presented Ambassador Oegroseno and Dr. Manual Schmitz (University of Trier) as speakers and Prof. Dr. Stephan Keukeleire (KU Leuven & College of Europe) as the Chair, Ambassador Oegroseno enlightened the participants with the chronology of Indonesia's journey from its creation until today, highlighted how Indonesia has survived several crisis and has achieved a remarkable position in the global stage today. He also answered the questions from other panelists as well as the audience ranged from poverty reduction, colonialism, Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), free trade agreement, Euro crisis, disability, and ASEAN to East Timor/ Timor Leste, Myanmar, and Islam. Dr. Schmitz praised Indonesia for its achievement but highlight some challenges that Indonesia still has to deal with in order to maintain the momentum. [Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia]
