Indonesian karate team won 10 gold medal in 3rd International Karate Open of the Province of Liege

​The Indonesian student karate team consisting of 18 athletes from elementary, middle and high school students arrived safely in Indonesia on November 22, 2018. These students came to Belgium and competed in the 3rd Edition of International Karate Open of the Province of Liège held from November 17 to 18, 2018 in Herstal, Province of Liège, Belgium. During the two-day match, the Indonesian student karate team led by the Ministry of Education and Culture won 22 medals: 10 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze.

"We are proud of the achievements made by our student athelete and we hope they will continue to be successful in their future career," explain Indonesian Ambassador in Belgium, Mr. Yuri O. Thamrin during the presentation of medals to the champions. The competition entered its third year and was initially organized in 2016 with participants of 7 countries in Europe and has now grown to 15 countries and Indonesia was ranked fourth in the second and third edition of the championship. But this year, we received more medals. For the past couple of year, in the first rank is Belgium, the second is Netherlands and third place is France. This year is the second time for the Indonesian team competed in this championship.

The competition was divided into two days where the first day on 17 November 2018 was in Kumite category with achievements results as follows:

5. Maslika Surani (SMAN Surabaya), First Winner / gold medal
6. Rizaldi Eka Wikanda (SMAN 6 Surakarta), First Winner / gold medal
7. Paramitha Nurdea Puji Astuti (SMAN 8 Kediri), Champion II / silver medal
8. Melva Natalia Siregar (SMAN Pangkalan Kerinci - Riau), Champion III / bronze medal
9. Dimas Hadi Saputra (Tualang High School - Riau), Third Place / bronze medal

While the second day on 18 November 2018 is in Kata category with results as follows:

On this occasion the Indonesian Ambassador also had the opportunity to meet with the President of the World Karate Federation, Yashar Bashirov, world karate champion Rafaël Aghaev who is from Azerbaijan and Head Organizer of the 3rd edition of International Karate Open of the Province of Liege,​ Thierry Williams.
