Thursday, 5 October 2017 marked the 72nd anniversary of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia/TNI). The joyous day was commemorated throughout the Indonesian archipelago. This year, for the second time the national celebration was held at the Indah Kiat Harbor in Cilegon, Banten province, Indonesia.
Half the world away from our beloved country, the Embassy of Indonesia in Brasilia-DF did not want to miss this momentous event. Here, the anniversary was humbly and solemnly commemorated with a thanksgiving gathering, without undermining the meaning of the armed forces' big day. The event took place in the hall of the Embassy's office building on 6 October 2017 and was attended by the extended family of the Embassy.
At the start of the celebration, the Embassy's Defense Attaché, Col. (Air Force) Budhi Achmadi, presented a brief history of the Indonesian army since its inception to current developments. Col. Budhi also conveyed TNI's proud achievements, among others its involvement in the United Nations' Peacekeeping missions, the development of the national defense industry, and being ranked 14th in the world for its military power in terms of the number of active duty personnel, armament capacity, and funding.
As the main event, the Ambassador of Indonesia, Air Marshal (Ret.) Toto Riyanto, cut the celebratory tumpeng dish (Indonesian traditional celebratory dish consisting of cone-shaped rice with various side dishes), the first cutting of which was then presented to Col. Budhi. All attendees joined in the celebration and enjoyed the tumpeng lunch. To conclude the event, Col. Budhi cut the anniversary cake as an expression of gratitude for TNI's achievements.
As part of the Indonesian nation, the extended family of the Embassy would always be thankful and proud of TNI. Together with Indonesian people, TNI would keep fighting for the integrity and unity of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. Happy 72nd anniversary to TNI. “Together with the people, TNI is strong".
