BERLINALE 2018: „SEKALA NISKALA“ WON GRAND PRIZE

Sekala Niskala (The Seen and Unseen) a film by Kamila Andini won the Grand Prize for Generation KPlus International at the 2018 Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin on Saturday, Februay 24th 2018. It is the first Indonesian film participating at the festival since 2015, and the first Indonesian feature film to receive best picture award in the prestigious Berlinale.

The film presented in Balinese language features  Balinese artists such as Ayu Laksmi, I Ketut Rina, and two shooting stars, Thaly Kasih and Gus Sena, on the above photo with; Ifa Isfansyah (Producer, far left), M.Fattah Hardiwinangun (I.Secretary, Press, Social and Culture Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, middle), Kamila Andini (3rd from right), Ida Ayu Wayan Arya Satyani, (far right). Their dance and vocal performances  becomes the focus of the film. The movie is also supported by the choreography by  I.A. Wayan Arya Satyani with collaboration of various dance studios in Bali.

The film tells a story of how a girl deals with her sadness of losing her twin brother. The audience are invited into the innocence and imaginative world of a child's mind presented in the dance and singing.

Sekala Niskala was already premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, amd also won numerous awards, namely: Best Young Film in Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2017, Best Movie at the  Tokyo FILMeX 2017, and Best Film at the  Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival.
