Sulawesi through the Batik “Story” Fashion Show (26/7)
Belgrade (26/7) – the Beauty of North
Sulawesi was picked as the theme of the Batik Fashion Show, held by Indonesian
Embassy-Belgrade at the Metropol Palace Hotel this summer 2018.
The rich culture and tourism of the North
Sulawesi has been smoothly described by so-called “Batik Story”
best collections designed by Indonesian prominent designers Sissy Matindas,
Terry Solangs and Jinno Rauw.
The Batik Story is defined as the batik, an Indonesian
technique of wax-resist dyeing of clothes, created by Sizzy Matindas in telling
story of the beauty of North Sulawesi.
“We have gathered here to take you to the beautiful
journey of North Sulawesi, Indonesia”… and the Batik is telling you the beauty
of North Sulawesi from the under water color parade to the pretty views of North Sulawesi”, said the Ambassador Harry R.J. Kandou on
his opening remarks of the event.
Sincerely gratitude and appreciation were also delivered
to the local governments of the Province
of North Sulawesi who have come to the
event and participated in promoting the beauty of North Sulawesi while also
enjoying the beauty of Serbia.
The fashion show presented 3 sequences of the Batik in “a
ready to wear”, “kaftan” and “haute couture”, amazed more than 300 special
guests, consist of foreign Ambassadors-Belgrade and the whole diplomatic corps,
government of Serbia, International Women’s Club-Belgrade (IWC), Fashionistas,
Socialites, Boutique owners, celebrities and media.
Besides enjoying the sequences of the fashion show, the
guests were astonished by the traditional dances performed by Indonesian
Embassy Dance Group and Kolintang, the traditional music of North
Sulawesi performed by City Government of Manado and Temboan group.
Known as the traditional technique of wax-resist dyeing of
a cloth/fabric, BATIK has been acknowledged by UNESCO as Indonesian heritage
culture since 2009.
