??Indonesian Embassy in Beirut last May on Monday (05/05/2014) organized an Indonesian Cultural Show of Angklung, Kolintang, and Gamelan Orchestra in the Women's League Garden Party 2014 at Marquand House American University of Beirut.
Attending the gathering were President of the Women's League Mrs. Lamia Kawar, association’s committe, representatives from the American University of Beirut, Indonesian Ambassador, the Philippines Ambassador, Commander of the Indonesian Battalion in UNIFIL (Indobatt), around 200 association members and several Lebanese NGOs.
In her opening speech, Mrs. Kawar expressed his appreciation for the Indonesian Embassy’s willingness for entertaining the league’s garden party with Indonesian cultural musics, as well as to highlight the event as a means for introducing Indonesian culture to Lebanese society.
In response to that, the Indonesian Ambassador in his speech conveyed the Embassy’s gratitude to Women's League for working together and in giving precious opportunity for the promotion of the Indonesian cultural in its annual gathering, and shared ambassador’s hope to further strengthen the friendship between Indonesia and the Lebanese society.
In the event Indonesian Embassy’s and Indobat’s cultural teams alternately entertained the guests for 30 minutes. The first show was the Embassy’s team playing traditional musical instruments of Gamelan orchestra (bonangs, saron and peking) originated from the Java Island, and Kolintang musical instruments from the Island of Sulawesi by playing famous Lebanese-Arabic pop songs Kuku-kuku (Good Morning) and Nassam Alayna Al Hawa (Air).
After that the Indobatt’s team performed angklung-rampak kendang orchestra originated from the Island of Java to accompany the singing of western pop songs Give Me A Reason and I Will Survive, and performed folklore dancing of Indang Badinding from the Island of Sumatera.
At the end of the show most of the guests took pictures with the Indonesian Ambassador and the performers, and then continued to cocktail garden party with a relaxed atmosphere.
