Colorful Gala of Indonesian Culture in Celebrating 34th Nationality Day of Brunei Darussalam

Bandar Seri Begawan – Since in the morning, 24 February 2018, the participants of parade for the Nationality Day and people of Brunei Darussalam were already filling Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien Brunei Darussalam Park. All of them came to enliven the 34th Nationality Day of Brunei Darussalam. Indonesia have participated in this parade. It was  represented by Indonesian Embassy and cooperating with Persatuan Masyarakat Indonesia (PERMAI). Besides that, there was also community for branch of Pancak Silat Indonesia “Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate" in Brunei Darussalam.

Parade for the Nationality Day followed with 138 troops and involve 23.000 participants, which not only comes from Brunei Darussalam but also other country, such as Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh. The participants were preparing their best performance and outfit in front of the watchers. Moreover this event was also attended by Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, state officials, ambassador of foreign state and covered in media.

Meanwhile, Indonesia showed traditional clothes such as North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bali, East Java, West Java, Central Java, DKI Jakarta, Aceh, Lampung, and South Sumatra. The various traditional clothes reflects philosophy and historical essence of Indonesian diversities. Every traditional clothes have its own typical characteristics, which  shows that Indonesian culture is variegated. Beside traditional clothes, some of participants were also wore Batik.

According to one of parade's participant from Indonesia  said that “I felt like I was becoming a celebrity all of a sudden. Because during parade I have always been the center of attention by wearing traditional clothes of Tapanuli." The parade's participant, whose apparently an internship student in Indonesian embassy in Brunei Darussalam, felt proud because she can be one of the the representative of Indonesia to participate and involve in this year's parade.

The parade for Nationality Day this year was running smoothly although the weather on that day was quite hot, however that was not decreasing the spirit of the participants. In the next year it is expected that Indonesian people who lives in Brunei Darussalam can participate with more innovative and creative appearance. With this event it is expected to strengthen the relationship between Indonesian people in Brunei Darussalam and citizens of Brunei Darussalam.
