​Foreigners are required to have valid visa for traveling to Indonesia. Before submitting your visa application, please check below for important information concerning visa application procedure, visa condition and any other requirements for submitting visa application at our Embassy.​

Do you need a visa for your travel to Indonesia?

Applicants are encouraged to check whether their travel to Indonesia require a visa. Citizens of 169 countries and special administrative regions are exempted from having a visa for short visit to Indonesia and to stay for up to 30 days. For more information, please click here​.

Who can apply a visa at our Embassy in Athens?
All citizens that hold passport with validity more than 6 months from the departure date.

How long the process of the visa will take?

The process to issue a visa at our Embassy takes approximately three business days, provided that all requirements are met. The process may take longer time during Ramadhan. This period excludes the period needed for delivery by post. Therefore, kindly adjust your travel plan with the period needed to organize a visa.

No exception is to be made to any applicant, unless under emergency or humanitarian situation (for example: a family member fall ill or sick while traveling to Indonesia as proven by written statement issued by local hospital or doctor). Please note that applicant who has just realized that their passport is expired or valid for less than 6 months and applying a visa using a temporary or provisory passport is not considered as urgent or emergency situation, therefore, normal visa procedure applies.

What is the expiry date mentioned on the visa and how long can travelers stay in Indonesia with their visa?

An Indonesian visa must be used within 90 days after it is issued, otherwise it will not be valid for use anymore (the expiry date is mentioned on the upper right part of the visa). The duration of stay (up to 60 days) starts from the first day of arrival in Indonesia based upon the entry stamp provided at the Immigration Checkpoints.

Visa application, which is sent more than 90 days before the date of entry to Indonesia, will not be processed immediately. Should the said application being approved, the issuance of the visa will be delayed until the appropriate time.

Are you citizens of a country that is listed in our watch list or are you holders of travel documents for refugee or asylum seeker issued by Greek Government?

Visa application from any citizens whose countries are included in the watch list and therefore need visa authorization from the Immigration Office in Indonesia, requires longer processing time. As part of the assessment process, our Embassy has the right to request additional supporting documents. Failed to do so will result the application being denied and all documents will be returned to applicant.

Are you a journalist or a film maker who plan to do journalistic or film making activity in Indonesia?

For journalistic and film making activities, applicant must obtain a special permit prior to applying for a visa. For more information,  please contact the Social Culture Section of the Embassy through email address: pensosbud.ath​ena@kemlu.go.id.

Are you staff members of Greek based companies planning to go to Indonesia for specific activities?

The following purposes of visits require Foreign Workers Employment Permit (IMTA) issued by the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia:

  1. Commercial film making activities that have been granted a film making permit by relevant institution.
  2. Conducting audit, quality control, or inspection to a branch office in Indonesia with duration of stay for more than 30 days.
  3. After sales works which include machinery and electrical instalation, as well as after sales service related to initial business assessment.

For travelers who are in possesion of an IMTA and are already in Indonesia are advised to convert their Visit Visa (Visa B-211) into Limited Stay Visa at the nearest Immigration Office. For travelers who are not in possesion of IMTA and are already in Indonesia will be denied further stay and later be fined or deported.

Please note that our Embassy has limited number staffs handling visa and consular matters, therefore, telephone calls are not always promptly answered. The best and most effective way to contact us is through email address: konsuler.athena@kemlu.go.id.

Before sending your questions and enquiries, please make sure that you have looked for the information in our website. Our staffs will only respond to email from applicants asking specific questions or enquiries. TYPE OF VISA

1. Single Entry Visa (index B-211)

This type of visa is valid for single entry only with a maximum period of stay for 60 days. This visa is applied to those who will visit Indonesia for the purpose of official government activities, tourist visit, social and cultural activities, sports, business and commercial activities, family visit, journalistic activities, or transit. Please note that this visa is not valid for gainful employment. This type of visa may be extended for maximum 4 times, with additional 30 days of stay per extension.

2. Multiple Entry Visa (index D-212)

This type of visa is valid for multiple entries to Indonesia and valid for a period of 1 year starting from the date of issue of the visa with no more than 60 days per visit. This type of visa is applied for those who require several visits to Indonesia for the purpose of official government activities, business or commercial activities, and family visit. Please note that this visa is not valid for gainful employment and cannot be converted into any other type of stay permit. This type of visa requires Visa Authorization from the Immigration Head Office in Jakarta, Indonesia.

3. Limited Stay Visa (index C-311 to 319)

This type of visa is valid for a limited stay in or migrating to Indonesia for maximum stay of 2 years period and valid for various purposes, including gainful employment. This type of visa is not valid for tourism. Prior visa authorization from the Immigration Office required.


4. Diplomatic or Service Visa

This type of visa is only issued for holders of diplomatic passport, service passport, and United Nations Laissez-Passer. The duration of stay is depending on the purpose of visit with maximum of stay for 30 days.   


Countries that Require Special Authorization

Holders of passports issued by the following countries require special visa authorization from the Immigration Office in Indonesia prior to applying a visa at our Embassy:

  1. Afghanistan
  2. Cameroon
  3. Guinea
  4. Israel
  5. Liberia
  6. Niger
  7. Nigeria
  8. North Korea
  9. Somalia

Holder of travel document for refugee or asylum seeker issued by Greek Government also require special visa authorization from the Immigration Office.

It is important to note that the process of obtaining a special authorization from the Immigration authority may take several weeks to several months. Therefore, please do not purchase any ticket prior to the visa authorization is obtained. Once an authorization is obtained, the visa will be issued within 3 business days after the embassy receives a complete set of application documents.

Arrangement of Visa Authorization

To organize a visa authorization, applicants must have sponsors in Indonesia who will guarantee their stay in Indonesia and must present themselves in person at the Immigration Head Office. Request for a Visa Authorization can be submitted to our Embassy or directly to the Immigration Head Office in Jakarta by applicant's sponsor. Please allow several weeks for the authorization to be processed by the Immigration Office.

When the authorization is issued, Immigration Office will send a telex approval to the sponsor and to our Embassy in Athens, Greece, where applicants can issue their visa. Please be advised that the Embassy has the right to refuse an application and cancel the authorization if any false and inaccurate information are to be found in the application.

Obtaining Permit for Journalistic and Film Making Activities

In order to obtain a permit to conduct journalistic activities or making film or shooting video in Indonesia, applicant(s) must contact the Press and Information Section of the Embassy through email pensosbud.athena@kemlu.go.id. Separate form must be filled and submitted to the embassy for further assessment.

Once the permit is granted, applicant(s) shall continue to apply for a visa through usual procedure at the Embassy's Consular Section. Applicant must submit filled visa application form and the required documents added with the journalistic/ film making/ video shooting permit to the Consular Section.


Submitting Visa Application

Applicant or their agent present the complete set of document at the Consular Service Counter at the Embassy of Indonesia in Athens. Application must be submitted between Monday to Friday from 09.30 – 11.30, except on public holidays (click here for information on the Embassy's public holiday). No appointment is required to submit your visa application.

Payment for visa, legalization and other consular service should be made through bank transfer or deposit to the Embassy's official account.​ The Embassy of Indonesia no longer accepts cash payment for any of its services. Any visa application or request for consular service whose payment is not made through bank transfer or deposit, will be returned to the applicant and the request will not be processed.
