?Around 100 guests comprises of travel agents, government dignitaries, and journalists enthusiastically attended the launching of new Indonesia's visa policy for Iraqis who intend to visit Indonesia for the purpose of traveling, business, or other events. The event was held at the Ballroom of Al - Mansour Hotel, Baghdad on 18 December 2013.
Indonesian Ambassador, H.E. Safzen Noerdin, stated on his speech that this new policy is a concrete manifestation of Indonesian government's efforts to improve the relations and cooperation between Indonesia-Iraq especially to enhance the people to people contact of the two nations. Noerdin realized the visa policy became one of the obstacles in the relations between the two countries since Indonesia reactivate its embassy in Baghdad in 2011. The issue of asylum seekers from various countries including Iraqis has been the barrier in relation to the visa policy. In addition, other immigration problems such as overstay also raises legal issues in Indonesia. All those problems then become obstacle in changing our visa policy for some countries where the asylum seekers come from.
Noerdin expressed his hope that this new visa policy will significantly improve the relationship of Indonesia – Iraq, particularly in building closer friendship as well as promoting economic and trade mission from both countries. Noerdin also encouraged tour and travel operators and other related stakeholders to take more positive benefits from this new policy, especially to increase the frequencies of mutual visits between the people e.g. students exchange and cultural mission.
In relation to this new visa policy, the embassy of Indonesia in Baghdad has made adjustment for the application procedure of various types of visas that can be applied by the Iraqis. The process for each application hopefully will be faster and more efficient.
