Indonesian Day Event In Ethiopia Adventist College


EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA ADDIS ABABA - ETHIOPIA PRESS RELEASE No. 148 /Pen/Add/III/2011 INDONESIAN DAY EVENT IN ETHIOPIA ADVENTIST COLLEGE The Indonesian Embassy in cooperation with Ethiopia Adventist College organized “Indonesian Day” at the Ethiopia Adventist College, Kuyera, on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 ( 40 Kilometers from Awassa City). During the event, Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Ramli Saud gave public lecture to the students, lectures and a number of officials from the regional government about Indonesia in general, the current state of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Ethiopia, and his vision on enhancing the relations towards advanced level of relations in the future. The event was then followed by Indonesian Evening Cultural Show at the same compound. The event showcased some cultural performances such as traditional music (Angklung) originated from West Java Province, traditional dances (“Jaipong” Dance from Sunda and “Rantak Besapih” Dance from Jambi) and cooking demonstration showing how to make one of popular Indonesian dish. All of these shows were performed by the staffs of the Embassy, as well as the Indonesian Women Association in Addis Ababa-Ethiopia. The event has attracted many local communities to come, where more than a thousand spectators were sought during the evening show. The event was also covered by local and national press. The Ambassador told the press that this event is aimed at promoting Indonesia through culture that is believed to be one of the most effective tools for diplomacy. In the near future, the Embassy also has plan to have similar programs in other regions in Ethiopia. Ambassador Ramli Saud told the press that the event was a quite success, judging by the public interest shown in the event. The Ambassador also visited the President of SNNP region, the Mayor of Awassa, and also the caretaker the President of the Awassa University. The visit was to discuss some possible areas of cooperation between Indonesia and Ethiopia, particularly exploring the economic and social potentials. Indonesian Embassy March 31, 2011
