Indonesia has never sent any athletes to compete in the Winter Olympics nor did they send any for the 2010 Winter Olympics held here in Vancouver. Clearly, there were no cheers for Indonesia in the opening ceremony or at any podium where Olympic medals are awarded. But the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver hasn’t left Indonesia awardless.
On Valentine Day (February 14), Taman Sari Heritage Spa received an honorary visit from Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond. Amidst their busy schedule during the Olympic time, Their Excellencies managed to treat themselves in a 80 minutes of Javanese traditional massage of Indonesia. Her Excellency was impressed with the Javanese traditional massage and later write of her spa experience as “It is like a Re-Birth!”. The Haitian-born Governor General was not just impressed with Javanese Traditional massage but also by Indonesia, she has mentioned that one day she intend to visit Bali, Indonesia. The visit of the Governor General is not only an award for Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa but also an award for Indonesia. Indonesia might not win gold for competing in the winter Olympics, but through honor Javanese traditional massage, Indonesia had won the heart of the Governor General of Canada.
