Two interesting different shows which were blended into only one entitled “Indonesian Jewellery and Culture Show” had been presented in Java Room, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Toronto on October 5th, 2009. The show which started from 02.00 pm to 08.00 pm local time was held by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Toronto in cooperation with Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Mutumanikam Foundation.

 

In the beginning of his speech, Indonesian Consul General, Mr. Bambang C Gunawan, requested all guests to pay a moment of silence and pray for the victims of Padang earthquake. Afterward, he told that this show aimed to introduce the uniqueness and diversity of Indonesian cultures which is provided in the form of beauty of various jewelleries, traditional dances, music, and Batik fashion show.

 

Guests were not only amazed by the jewellery collections, but also by the performance of Pendet and Cenderawasih Dance as well as the Fashion Show which was designed by the famous Indonesian designer Stephanus Hamy and shown off by six models. The show became more interesting with the performance of Sasando music equipment from Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara which was beautifully played as a background accompanying visitors shopping around the jewellery. The event was attended by Corps of Councillor, Councillors’ Spouses Association, businessmen, art lovers, and Indonesian community.

 

The expected outcome of this show was to attract visitors’ interest to buy Indonesian products and to promote the Indonesian cultures which in the end could be a way of increasing Canadian tourists visiting Indonesia.
