A Bazaar event entitled “Food Bazaar Fundraiser for Padang Earthquake Victims” was held at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Toronto by the Indonesian communities living in the Greater Toronto Area. This event was held on October 24th, 2010 from 11.00 am to 2.30 pm local time as part of their awareness to their friends and relatives who suffering from the earthquake which struck city of Padang, West Sumatera.
This event has attracted around 400 people mostly Indonesian and one of the visitors was Mr Raymond Chow, Councillor from Scarborough Ward. Among Indonesian cuisines sold in the event were Gudeg Yogya, Ketupat Tahu, Martabak, Gethuk, Kue Lapis, Mie Bakso, Kue Panada, Kue Lupis, Nasi Uduk, Siomay, Pempek Palembang, Es Doger, Otak-otak, Mie Goreng, Sate Ayam, Bakwan, Lemper and Kroket.
As many as 16 booths participated to maximize the earning from this event, apart from raffle ticket sold for lucky draw and donation through Karaoke session program. The total amount collected from this Bazaar was CAD$ 7,200 and all proceeds go to Padang earthquake survivors. Fundraiser event will be continued on October 28th, 2009 with cultural performances.
