Ambassador Soemadi Brotodinigrat is honoured with Order of the Rising Sun, Gold, and Silver Star from the Government of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo today, 9 May 2017.
The award was conferred by Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Shinzo Abe to honour Ambassador Soemadi Brotodiningrat’s hard work and contribution in promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding between Indonesia – Japan.
Ambassador Brotodiningrat served as Ambassador of Indonesia to Japan in 1998 – 2002 and as Alternate Chairperson during the negotiation process of Indonesia – Japan Economic Partnership Agreement Joint Commission. He had actively contributed to enhance economic cooperation between the two nations.
Besides Ambassador Soemadi Brotodiningrat, Marzuki Darusman was also awarded with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold, and Silver Star for his role as Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Democratc People’s Republic of Korea in 2010 – 2016.
The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold, and Silver Star, which was established in 1875, was Japan’s first award. The medal of honour was awarded to figures from various countries who contribute in the strengthening of partnership between Japan and its counterpart. This year, the medal of honour is awarded to 46 Japanese nationals and 11 foreign nationals.
