The Former President Abdurrahman Wahid died during medication after suffering from complications caused by heart disease, kidney disorders and diabetes following his admittance into Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in December 25th 2009 in order to undergo a dialysis. Mr. Abdurrahman Wahid, before becoming the Indonesian Fourth President was an Indonesian Muslim religious and political leader. He was the long-time president of the Nahdlatul Ulama and the founder of the National Awakening Party (PKB). During his lifetime, Mr. Abdurrahman Wahid had been attributed to many achievements following international acclamation over his contribution and thoughts to create worldwide understanding towards muslim society particularly in Indonesia.
The Former President Abdurrahman Wahid will be buried next to the graves of his grandfather and parents at his birthplace, Jombang, East Java.
As a mark of national condolence, the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo will raise the national flag at half mast from 31st December 2009 until 6th January 2010, and a book of condolences will be made available from 4th to 6th January 2010, in the morning from 10.00 to 12.00 and in the afternoon from 14.00 to 17.00
