The celebration of the 69th anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day in Sofia was marked by the sound of the steady tramp of the flag raising team on 17 August 2014. That particular morning, the flag raiser received the flag from Ambassador Bunyan Saptomo, to be raised accompanied by the Indonesian national song “Indonesia Raya”. The ceremony took place with the full service followed by all the Indonesian Embassy staff and Indonesian citizen in Bulgaria which led by Ambassador Bunyan Saptomo. The ceremony ended after the Ambassador delivers his speech and recitation of the prayer.
In his speech, Ambassador Saptomo among others conveyed to the people of Indonesia to reflect back on the struggle of the Indonesian nation to gain its independence, started from the National Revival (Kebangkitan Nasional), the Youth Oath in 1928 (Sumpah Pemuda) to the Proclamation of Independence in 1945, and continued with a 69-year struggle to develop the independence to create a prosperous society as mandated in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution.
The Ambassador also quoted the speech of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, on 15 August 2014 regarding the achievement for 69 years of independence, particularly in the areas of politics, economy, education and health. “In the field of politics and economics, we should be proud that other nations recognize our successful efforts to be the third largest democracy in the world and 16th largest in the world economy”, quoted the Ambassador.
In the field of education among others it is recorded that for the last 10 years Indonesian children who competed in various International competitions successfully won 217 gold medals. This year, a girl who participated in the International Chess competition at Golden Sand Bulgaria and a boy who participated in the International mathematics competition in Blageovgrad Bulgaria also successfully won the first award (gold).
Related to the theme of the anniversary this year "With the Spirit of the Proclamation of August 17, 1945, We Support the Success of the National Leadership the Result of Election 2014, For the Development of prosperous Indonesia", Ambassador Saptomo invited the Indonesian citizen in Bulgaria to support the new elected president in 2014 to continue the development of Indonesia to be more successful and prosperous.
After the flag ceremony, Ambassador and Mrs. Lia B. Saptomo cut the tumpeng (Indonesian yellow rice cone) and gave the first piece of it to Tomina Martinova, local staff of the embassy, as an appreciation for her discipline, honesty and loyalty for 17 years working at the Indonesian embassy in Sofia.
The commemoration of the Independence Day became more joyful with the traditional games for both children and adults: walking with balloon between the legs, to put the nail into the bottle and tug of war. Activities concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the race and lunch gathering.
Approximately 50 Indonesian citizens attended the 69th Indonesian Independence anniversary including a special guest Turkish Consul General in the city of Burgas, Niyazi Evren Akyol, who married to Indonesian citizen. The gathering at this independence anniversary tightens the brotherhood / silaturahmi among Indonesian society in Bulgaria and the staff of the Embassy in Sofia.
