Global soccer star, David Robert Joseph Beckham, says he does not underestimate teams in the Indonesian Selection.

He and his team from the Los Angeles Galaxy, the US, are determined to give their best and win the competition, which will be held on Wednesday at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, he said.

“I want to win the competition,” said Beckham in the press conference at the Ritz-Carlton in Kuningan, Jakarta, yesterday. Beckham arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport yesterday and went straight to the Ritz-Carlton hotel.

He said this was not the first time he had visited Indonesia. “But this is the first time I will be playing here,” he said.

Global soccer star, David Robert Joseph Beckham, says he does not underestimate teams in the Indonesian Selection.

The former Manchester United player was friendly and ethusiastic. “It’s amazing to be in Indonesia, especially as a MLS (Major League Soccer) champion," he said.

Wearing an LA Galaxy costume, Beckham said he knew about the soccer business in Indonesia. “I’ve heard that there are many young and talented players here,” he said.

However, when asked whether he would want to play in Indonesia, he said, “So far, I’m still playing for LA Galaxy.”

Beckham was accompanied by two LA Galaxy stars, Landon Danovan and Robbie Keane.

Mahaka Sports director, Hasani Abdulgani, said that besides competing in the Indonesia Selection, Beckham and his 26 friends would hold a coaching clinic at Bung Karno stadium.

After the competition, Beckham and the group will leave for Manila and then to Melbourne to continue their Asia-Pacific Tour.

Indonesia Selection coach, Rahmad Darmawan, said the competition against LA Galaxy would serve as a barometer for the national team. “I told the players to play and win,” said Rahmad.
