More than 500 Indonesians live in New York and its vicinity came for the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration held by Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in New York, on Friday, 10 September 2010. Even though far away from their home country, but a traditional Eid celebration is felt in 'Indonesian house' which is located in 5 East 68th Street, New York.
The celebration which took place from 13.00 to 17.00 is attended by various elements of Indonesian community, such as students and academicians, journalists, members of religious organizations, community group organizations, as well as representatives from Indonesian Permanent Mission, Forum Perbankan Indonesia, and friends of Indonesia.
In a warm and friendly situation, every guest is welcomed by Acting Consul General, Bambang Antarikso, and wife. Also in this occasion, Acting Consul General with all Consulate staffs wished a happy holiday and asked for forgiveness to all Indonesian community attended that night.
During this celebration, various Eid cuisines are served, such as ketupat, rendang, opor ayam, sambal goreng ati kentang, mie bakso, empek-empek, tape ketan, kue-kue, and es kelapa muda. Until the end of the celebration in the evening, Indonesian community continuously came to celebrate Eid as well as enjoyed the entertainment and cuisines.
Indonesian community in New York and its vicinity positively welcomed Eid celebration which is an annual event during Ramadhan. Beside meeting and gathering with other Indonesians, this celebration also helped them experiencing a celebration alike to what we have in Indonesia. Through an event like this, it is expected that relationship between various elements of Indonesian community overseas, especially within the coverage of Consulate General in New York, is well-kept.
