Indonesian team has participated in international mathematics competition III-2009 or "The 3rd WIZMIC 2009 (Wizard at the International Mathematic Competition 2009”, in Lucknow, India on October 27 to 30, 2009. WIZMIC is an International Mathematic Competition for students under the age of 14 years (Primary and Secondary School) which was annualy held in India since 2005.
The competition was organized by City Montessori School, Lucknow, India, which aims to provide a basis for the interaction of mathematics at the primary level and provide opportunities for students to bring new talents and to develop awareness of schools in order to increase the standards of their math curriculums. WIZMIC is also an opportunity to promote peace and international friendship by inviting the children to participate in healthy competition and sportsmanship.
Indonesian team consists of 19 of the best students selected from all across Indonesia. The team was led by the Ibu Elvira, Olympic Coordinator for Elementary Level of Directorate General of the Management of Primary and Secondary Education, Ministry of National Education with a number of eminent mentors and trainers of mathematics in Indonesia.
During the competition, the Indonesian team ranked overall champion after winning 10 gold medals, 9 silver and 5 bronze, in individual prize. They also won highest award for the category of Overall Champion Group Prizes. There are 207 participants in WIZMIC 2009 or 52 teams from nine Asian countries.
The Ambassador of Indonesia to India has invited the team to attend a dialogue and dinner at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi on 2 November 2009. On that occasion, Ambassador Republic of Indonesia congratulated the team for their achievements.
