Manama, Aug. 15. – His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman received here today the ambassadors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) accredited in the kingdom.
During the meeting, HRH Premier said that Bahrain is looking forward to a more solid and stronger relations between the GCC and the Asean Group in the economic and political fields.
HRH Premier also described the hosting of the group’s flag on the embassies of the member countries in Bahrain as a positive move that will enhance Asean as an economic and political bloc, which is strongly supported by the kingdom.
HRH Premier also took pride in the advanced level of the kingdom’s relations with the Asean group, asserting that negotiations between the GCC and Asean to establish a Free Trade zone will be a positive step to consolidate joint cooperation.
He also praised the efforts made by the Asean group’s envoys to strengthen ties with Bahrain, adding that Bahrain was the first country to be invited to attend Asean meetings as a guest of honour.
He also hailed the key role played by the Asean group’s community in Bahrain and their contributions to its development projects.
On their part, the Asean group’s ambassadors expressed their sincere appreciation to HRH Premier for his effective role in consolidating rapprochement between Bahrain and their group, which, they said, has reflected positively on GCC-Asean cooperation.
Then, the Philippines Ambassador spoke on behalf of the Asean envoys and expressed earnest thanks and appreciation to HRH Premier for his incessant support for expanding areas of cooperation between the Bahrain and the group, praising the kingdom’s respect for human rights, which, she affirmed, has made it the most favourable destination for Asean countries’ citizens.
