FM: China and The Philippines Contribute in Promoting Positive Development in the South China Sea

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

The Government of Indonesia welcomes steps taken by the Government of China and the Government of the Philippines over the affected area in the South China Sea.

"The reported reassignment of their vessels from the recently affected area contribute positively to the easing of tensions between the two countries", asserts Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.

"This positive development is in line with the efforts Indonesia has made to encourage both countries to refrain from further escalating tensions, and instead to promote peaceful settlement by diplomatic means." the Foreign Minister added.

The Government of Indonesia further reiterates the need to maintain the positive momentum in the ASEAN-China implementation of the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, including the identification of the elements of a code of conduct in the South China Sea.
