Indonesia has pledged its support for Timor Leste to become part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a presidential staffer said after a meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Timor Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao on Tuesday.

Indonesia is the ASEAN chair for 2011.
 
"The President has underlined that [he] will support the efforts by the [Indonesian] government to make Timor Leste a member of ASEAN," presidential special staff for international relations Teuku Faizashah said Tuesday.
 
He added that Timor Leste's membership in ASEAN was on hold until Timor Leste established a better infrastructure.
