As it is felt by their fellow Indonesians in the homeland, the happiness of celebrating the 66th Independence Day of Indonesia is also felt by Indonesians who live in Lima, Perú.

 

In the middle of the harsh winter, the Indonesian citizens participated in the flag ceremony which was held in front of the embassy of Indonesia in Lima. Along with other citizens, 30 Indonesian ship crews who stopped over in Callao port also participated in the ceremony.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Yosef Berty Fernandez conveyed that the 66th celebration is a moment to renew the nationalism and to keep alive the spirit of supporting Indonesian development.

 

He also conveyed that the 66th celebration is an achievement of the process of nation building with all of its dynamics and obstacles that touch various fields, such as politics, economy, social and cultural field. In the field of politics, Indonesia has experienced political and social transformation which places Indonesia as the third biggest democratic country. In the field of economy, Indonesia has been undergoing a better economic situation.

 

On the evening, the embassy held a cocktail with a motive to celebrate the 66th Independence Day in the ambassador´s residence. About 300 guests attended the cocktail. Accompanied by the guest of honor, Ambassador Luzmila Sanabria, Director General of Multilateral, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Perú, Ambassador Yosef Berty Fernandez expressed his appreciation to all the guests.

 

As one way to promote the Indonesian culture, the Angklung group of the Indonesian embassy played Andina songs, such as El Condor Pasa, Cielito Lindo and O Sole Mio. The Angklung show was successful to enliven the moment of the celebration.

 

Besides the Angklung play in the cocktail, the Indonesian embassy also has collaborated with a number of parties to organize some cultural programs in the month of August, such as a program about Indonesia in Radio Filarmonia 102.7 FM (17 August), dance performances and the Angklung play at the University of Ricardo Palma, (19 August), the seminar with a theme of Indonesia y Perú: Extendiendo puentes sobre dos Naciones a través de la Cultura, a dance performance and Angklung play on Simposio I Valorando la diversiad integramos lo nuestro in the school of Regina Pacis (23 August) and the exhibition of ´´? Al borde de Dar al-Islam ?´´ in the University of Antonio Ruiz de Montoya, (23-24 August).
