Acting Consul General of the Republic of Indonesian in Kuching, Rafail Walangitan present on the seminar held on 13th april 2010. The Seminar organised by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). on that seminar Acting Konsul, Rafail explain an opportunity doing business in West Kalimantan. He said the West Kalimantan government was establishing border development centres for various industries.
There are several borders that can be stress for development such as in Sambas, Bengkayang, Sanggau, Sintang and Kapuas Hulu, with each area characteristic, provide suitable resources for different industries such as wood-based industries, food processing, forest products, retail and ecotourism. “This is a huge opportunity for Sarawak's businessmen. Both Countries can cooperate and give more attention along the border”
In the seminar, Acting Konsul Jenderal, Rafail said that Sarawak and West Kalimantan could co-operate in business and economic development for mutual benefit. “West Kalimantan can support the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy in terms of supplying middle-range and skilled workers. Sarawak can support West Kalimantan in economic development as the province is the fourth-biggest in Indonesia and there is a wide variety of business opportunities there,” he said.
Moreover, Rafail said that West Kalimantan offered investment opportunities in agriculture, plantations, fishery, livestock, mining, tourism and infrastructure development. He said the West Kalimantan government had taken steps to enhance the investment climate by maintaining political stability, combating corruption, increasing law enforcement and improving investment policies and regulations.
